Music is a very important part of life at St. John’s. The congregation takes great pride in its pipe organ which was built and installed by the Tellers Organ Company in 1961. The organ was dedicated on March 5, 1961. The two manual organ contains 1,250 pipes, 16 voices, 20 ranks, 7 extensions and 28 stops with the Great Organ under 3’’ wind pressure and the Swell Organ under 4’’ wind pressure. The expression louvers are made of a double thickness of glass incased in wood, making possible the viewing of the lighted interior of the organ. The organ is an integral part of our worship here at St. John’s.

A Yamaha piano in our sanctuary is also part of our worship, being used to accompany the choirs, lead hymns and combine with pipe organ for duets and special music programs.

In November of 2005, St. John’s dedicated a three octave set of Malmark Handbells. The handbells were presented to St. John’s by Henry ‘Skip’ Gerhart, retired chancel choir director, in memory of his wife, Jean.

Choir Recognition Sunday is the fourth Sunday of October. This service is a celebration of music featuring special music by all of our choirs and our organist. On this day, St. John’s dedicates and gives special recognition to all the musicians of the church.
